Burning Heart presents a Lauralee Farrer production

None

None, the Story of the Mournful Songwriter

starring: Aaron Paul Ballard
director: Lauralee Farrer
episode producer: Tamara McMahon
principal writer: Jonathan Foster
principal cinematographer: Abe Martinez

background: None is the name of the mid-afternoon hour of prayer in the Benedictine tradition. The character of None is a mixture of beauty and melancholy. It’s the hour when shadows lengthen and when we are tempted to despair as we realize that the hours of light are numbered, and we will never complete all that we set out in our younger years to do.

Story: The Story of the Mournful Songwriter
None is a successful custom frameshop owner with a loving wife, a beautiful daughter, and a lost dream of being a musician. When old band friends come to town and invite None to play with them at a local open-mic night, sleeping dreams are reawakened. Traveling Man happens upon this scene, thinking he is there to help None finally seize his dreams. He follows as None tries to steal away from work to write a song.  There, he hears something he hasn’t heard before—None’s true heart in his songwriting. Seeing that he might have misjudged None’s motives all along, Traveling Man realizes why he is really there to visit his friend in the late afternoon. His epiphany frees him and liberates None to make a choice between resurrecting a faded dream or embracing the wonderful life he already has.
